Although the Animalia kingdom consisted of 36 phyla, most of the animals included were nine phyla. The nine phyla are Porifera, Coelenterata, Platyhelminthes, Aschelmeinthes, Annelida, Arthropoda, Mollusca, Echinoderms, and Chordata.

  1. Phylum Porifera: Consists of primitive salt water sponges without nerve cells or muscle cells.
  2. Phylum Coelenterata (Cnidaria): Consists of lower aquatic animals such as Hydra and jellyfish.
  3. Phylum Platyhelminthes: Consists of flatworms.
  4. Phylum Aschelmeinthes: Consists of mostly parasitic roundworms.
  5. Phylum Annelida: Consists of segmented warms.
  6. Arthropod phylum: The largest phylum, which consists of insects animals.
  7. Phylum Mollusca: The second largest phylum, consisting of invertebrate mollusks such as snails, clams, clams, chitons, and oysters.
  8. Phylum Echinoderms: Consists of starfish and sea urchins.
